Walnut Grove Plantation

We opted to stay a bit closer to home yesterday and check out Walnut Grove Plantation in Roebuck, SC that was built in 1765. The house was built on land that was given to Charles Moore from King George III in 1763. The plantation was once 3,000 acres, having that much land is just mind boggling.

It was really neat to walk inside the house and see how they once lived.
The rooms were quite large for the time period not to mention that ten children grew up in the house.

The first house they built was turned into the kitchen/slave quarters. Yes, the family did have ten slaves on the property. There was a blacksmith on the property to make the items needed. We were in luck yesterday because there was a blacksmith there who showed us how they would make S hooks back during that time period. I must say I felt really sorry for the gentleman yesterday, it was so hot (about 90) and he was working with the fire. *phew*

We really enjoyed ourselves, it is always interesting to take a step back in time and get a glimpse of what life was like.
